De Kleine Reis van Groot Plastic, Museum De Bastei

Interactive exhibition & VR experience.

Plastic is in everything we use. What’s less visible: millions of microplastics from everyday products end up in our water each day.
In The Small Journey of Big Plastic, developed for Museum De Bastei, visitors discover how these invisible particles form and the path they take through our water cycle.

MoMoLab handled the entire process: from concept and spatial design to VR production, graphic design, project management, and implementation.
The result is an accessible, playful and content-rich exhibition that makes a complex environmental topic understandable for a broad audience.

Mini-documentary: complex content, clearly explained

For the exhibition, MoMoLab designed a short visual mini-documentary that explains in just a few minutes how microplastics enter our system.
The film forms the content backbone of the exhibition and introduces visitors to an urgent and complex environmental issue in an approachable way.

VR Experience: The Long Journey of Small Plastic

The exhibition features six fully in-house animated VR experiences.
Visitors follow, guided by a virtual host, the journey of microplastics from products like shampoo, clothing, and wet wipes.
Step by step, they experience how these particles form, spread, and ultimately end up in rivers and drinking water.

The VR series is designed as an immersive, educational experience that makes complex processes understandable and visually engaging.

Low-Tech Quizzes: learning by doing

Scattered throughout the space are various Low-Tech quizzes designed by MoMoLab.
Visitors select answers using magnets and check them immediately through a simple little hatch.
A robust, tactile, screen-free way of interacting that actively engages both young and adult visitors with the theme.

Visual identity & graphic design

MoMoLab developed the full visual identity for the exhibition. The design language appears in:

  • information panels and displaysinfopanelen en displays
  • VR interfaces
  • the mini-documentary
  • campaign and social media assets

Everything comes together into one consistent, recognizable, and inviting visitor experience.

Result

By combining film, low-tech interactions, spatial design, and six VR experiences, MoMoLab created a complete, immersive exhibition that not only informs visitors but also lets them truly experience how microplastics affect our daily lives, and how they themselves can take action.
