In the exhibition “Fish of the North Sea,” visitors discover which fish inhabit the deep and shallow waters around the Netherlands.
The Fisheries Museum in Zoutkamp was in the process of renewing their exhibition, and we had the honor of redeveloping their “Fish of the North Sea” display. The original exhibition featured a display case, partially filled with sand, showcasing wooden cutouts of fish. The museum wanted to transform this into an educational and interactive experience while maintaining the original aquarium concept.
In collaboration with deFine, we designed a digital aquarium where thousands of North Sea fish swim freely. Through an interactive interface, visitors can explore different fish species and participate in a quiz.
For this project, our 3D artist modeled no fewer than 55 different fish species, ranging from anchovies to wolffish, including the lumpsucker. These fish were brought to life using artificial fish behaviour developed by our developer team.
Things MoMoLab worked on were
- 3D modeling 55 fish
- Programming virtual fish behaviour
- 3D environment design
- Concept development
